I only recently discovered this author and I have to say I really like all of her books I have read so far. This one did not disappoint. If you like historical novels with a bit of romance thrown in, you might enjoy this book too.

A good little book...

...that moves swiftly and keeps you entertained. While it is no great literary classic, it is good writing that moves along nicely. A light, airy read (without all the long, boring descriptions that I feel are fillers in most novels and therefore skip through) that allows the reader to care for the main character and keeps you reading till the last page.

Yes...it is unrealistic and predictable...but the book did its job and that job was to entertain me.

I'll read more books by this author.

About the Author
Em Griffin is Professor of Communication at Wheaton College in Illinois, where he has taught for the past twenty-six years and has been chosen Teacher of the Year. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication from Northwestern University. His research interest centers on the development of close friendships. Professor Griffin is the author of three applied communication books: The Mind Changers analyzes practical techniques of persuasion; Getting Together offers research-based suggestions for effective group leadership; and Making Friends describes the way that quality interpersonal communication can build close relationships. He also speaks and leads workshops on these topics in the United States, Singapore, and the Philippines. Professor Griffin’s wife, Jean, is an artist. They have two adult children, Jim and Sharon.

A nice reference text

I found this book to be a handy reference book for an introduction to the various theories and theorists. It has been one that I have kept on my bookshelf. I would have liked to have seen more in the way of interactive exercises, as I believe the college classroom is the best opportunity a person will ever have to try these theories out in a communication laboratory.

Informative and clear

Author Em Griffin is able to make an interesting read out of communication theory, which has potential to be dry. Each of the theories covered in this text is interesting and relevant to daily life, well-supported with useful examples and valid data and explained with clarity. Sometimes the examples get too wordy for my taste, but in general the chapters offer solid overviews of theories. I've learned a lot from this text. I'm keeping it for future reference.

The Marketer's Ultimate Guide

In this book Jeff Walker explains, in clear, readable language, the system that he developed for attracting and engaging customers and building his business. He provides numerous examples of his own actions, including both successes and failures, to lead the reader methodically through the events that led to his thinking and actions as he developed his system (or formula) and his business. As he goes through this discussion he lays out a plan, complete with notes and asides, for others to follow. In fact, he also includes stories about others who have had success using his formula. Jeff Walker has developed a system that others would be wise to consider even if they don't follow it in it's entirety. I highly recommend it. I may need to read the book again myself.

This inequality is greatly limiting national economic performance and the fact that Britain has a below average standard of living by European and OECD terms has been ignored. The UK’s economic and governance inequality is unlikely to be fundamentally rebalanced by the current governance and connectivity trends, although this definitive study suggests that some areas of improvement are possible if they are well implemented.
