A great new series!

Xander King is seriously bummed when his family moves from Pasadena, CA to a little hick town called Pinedale. He loved his life back home and can't imagine what this new town and new school could possibly have to offer. When the King's arrive they begin searching for a house to buy and finally stumble across an old, abandoned Victorian home deep in the woods.

Xander's parents instantly fall in love with the old house and set to work trying to make it livable. Xander and his brother, David, begin exploring and make startling discoveries. It seems one of the closets is some sort of gateway to a locker in their new school. If that wasn't strange enough, they also discover a secret passageway that is full of rooms that are portals to other worlds. After a couple of exploring adventures gone bad, the boys soon realize that this house is much more dangerous than they could have ever imagined. Unfortunately, the King's are about to discover just how real that danger is.

Robert Liparulo is known for pulse-pounding thrillers. With winners like Comes a Horseman, Germ, and Deadfall under his belt, he has truly left his mark on the genre. Now Liparulo graces his fans with a new young adult series that has everything we've come to expect from him and more. House of Dark Shadows is a fun story that is full of thrills and chills that never feel watered down for the young adult audience. Xander and David's mini adventures and discoveries are laced with just the right amount of action and intrigue to keep you nervously flying through the pages. The house itself is one of the strongest characters in the book, bringing a delightfully creepy tone to this well crafted tale.

As always, Liparulo's writing carries deeper meaning beyond the action and thrills. At its heart this story is about the bond of family and love, and the power therein. With every new novel Liparulo continues to prove what an incredible storyteller he is and this new series is no exception. The end will leave you begging for more and loving every moment. This is Robert Liparulo at his best!

Write Faster, Bob

If you are thinking about buying House of Dark Shadows, you may want to go ahead and grab Watcher in the Woods because once you reach... "Not the end" you are going to want book two within reach. These books are quick reads, too. Don't say you haven't been warned if you have to wait for the next book, and don't expect a resolution of the King family problems in book two either. I may have to have a word with Bob or the publisher about possibly speeding up this series.

Robert Liparulo respects the YA genre by refusing to dumb down his storytelling mastery. House of Dark Shadows delivers rich characters, intense action and crisp setting along with a strong vocabulary. Adults are going to love these books as much as the teens they're written for.

Centered around a family that has "no secrets," the story starts with foreboding and provides bang after wham after sucker-punch as the reader discovers one secret after another along with the characters. More questions are left than are answered.

Shadows introduces the King family, all named after royalty, as they are moving from city to country...make that backwoods. Not only does Xander, the 15-year-old point-of-view character have to deal with leaving friends and a girlfriend, his dad is now his principal in the smallest school he's ever attended.

Xander's folks then find a house they fall in love with. Lots of room, and full of character, creepy noises, shadows and odd acoustics. What's not to love?

Xander discovers how very strange the house is as the entire family is plunged into the truth of the secrets.

The intensity of the themes may be too much for younger or easily frightened readers.

About the Author

Graham Morse enjoyed a business career in sales and marketing. At aged thirty, he taught himself to sail in a Mirror dinghy, and got the sailing bug. Several boats later, family sailing holidays took them across the English Channel, and then through the Bay of Biscay to South Brittany and Spain. His ocean racing experience included the 1989 Fastnet race.

He retired at sixty to spend more time sailing and exploring. In 2002 Graham and his wife, Janet, crossed the Atlantic and spent three years cruising the Caribbean. A few years later, he was struck down by a mysterious illness and vowed that if he recovered he would not miss his last opportunity to achieve a lifelong dream --to sail across the Pacific Ocean.

The experience of that voyage gave him the inspiration to achieve another ambition --to be a writer.

Graham Morse has four children and seven grandchildren and lives in the Cayman Islands.

It was a good read

Hello Potential Reader,
If you are like me, you dream of sailing/traveling to the South Pacific. So, of coarse, when I came across this book I had to read it. I found the book well written and easy to read. It basically describes a passage thru the South Pacific. I enjoyed getting to ride along and be apart of the adventure. I was a little worried however, in the first chapter, that due to the author's financial success in life his story would overly reflect a well-to-do's adventure. My worries were unfounded. The boat may be a little bigger but it was essentially the story of any skipper traveling the seas. Plus, if you are a fan of Tom you'll enjoy the bits about Suvarov.

Great read - I enjoyed the "escape"!

The detail on the culture and history of the islands and countries of the South Pacific is excellent. What comes out in spades is a warmth for those people and cultures that the author meets on his travels. I am a sailor, but with a busy family life, and wife and I buried in careers - we both enjoyed the escape that the book provides. It inspired us both that one day we might actually live this dream! ...A great read for a cold winter's night!

Great read!

I read the first book in the series and then HAD to read this one. I was shocked in this one by the story. The bodyguard!?!?! OMG! I really, really hope that the author publishes more for this series, especially after the cliff hanger at the end! What the heck happens next??? Finished the book last evening and I can't bring myself to start another one because I'm still wondering what's next!!! Please give us more books!!! :)

Some people do not deserve forgiveness. And shame on the writer for saying this person did

A rapists does not get forgiveness, the dad who had his 13 year old son bring friends that were girls to his home so he could rape these 13/14 year old girls, a dad who gives his 13 year old son to other men and women to be rape for a year, a dad who threatened to have his daughter kidnapped and killed does not get forgiveness.

Did everyone else noticed that all the rapists get away with it in this book. No one goes to the police so daddy continues to rape teenage girls. Iris didn't go to the police. So this story basically says if you get raped no need to go to the cops just get a new car and get over it.

Shame on the writer for writing the the son forgave his dad after all he did.

That stuff does not deserve forgiveness and shame on you for saying he gets it.

Second, why must you make her so stupid. She was kidnapped and almost killed by the women in book one. She went on and on how she felt she wasn't safe. Now you have her not wanting a bodyguard. That is so stupid because it goes against how you wrote her in book one. And a guy worth 100 million doesn't have a bodyguard already?

Now there has been a lot of issues I had with this book and here is want makes me hate iris.

How in the he'll are you friends with the women who slept with your husband when she knew he wasn't thinking of her. She continued to let Nat live with them, b.s. the women who had sex with my husband would not be staying in the same house. They are millionaires put her in a hotel or just buy her own home. I mean Ryan paid off the lawyer yo make iris happy buy Nat a home, just get her out of the house. Iris is just a weak door mat.
I liked her when she left and I'm sorry, her husband slept with another women, it doesn't matter how, but that he did. I would of left him to so she lied, well he had sex with another women, he made his bed. Then Nat was living with him, but that is ok. B.s. I don't care that they are roommates, she should of never lived with him. But then again, iris is ok with it and is friends with Nat.

Cheating is when your spouse touches another person sexual. I understand the nick thing but once he got married, that Nick thing should be over, it is cheating if your kissing some one else, it doesn't matter that it is another man. She is ok with, what women is ok with her husband kissing some one else?

Here why I hate Ryan. Your wife comes first. But he never did that. Your wife goes to court because she was kidnapped and almost killed by your old lover, and where are you? With your ex-wife. Oh the ex-wife, who he is going to be supporting without talking to your wife. You left your wife all by herself with a mad man wanting to kill her. You let the women who presented to be your wife so she could have sex with you, live in your house. Didn't even kick her out when your wife came back. He is a bigger door mat than his wife. He's nice so every one walks over him, takes and gives nothing back but his wife and what does he do? He puts all those other people first.

The whole bodyguard thing was just to much and so was the smart baby. Book one so much better, this book I would not even recommend if it was free. Dear God, by the end of the book, I'm like Nick more ant one else and that is sad.

Still recovering!

This book was dark...mesmerizing....angst ridden.....and a great roller-coaster ride. There were times I thought I couldn't continue reading it. It was a compilation of one mishap after another and I found myself holding my breath for a good percentage of it. But, my curiosity always won out and and now I'm salivating for the next one. The imaginative story covered almost every deviant behavior you could imagine, but was tempered by two wonderfully sensitive and loving main characters. Ryan is to die for and his relationship with Iris really was a "Cinderella fairytale". Not for the faint of heart.....but a story not easily forgotten. UNFORTUNATELY...it is a cliffhanger (the bane of my existence!) and I can only hope that a sequel will be released soon before I lose my eagerness to read on.

Houston, We Have A Problem. Several, Actually

Were I to rate this book simply on the plot, it would score far higher. It is beyond intriguing and unfolds at a fairly decent pace. That said, I have major issues with this book, which is why I'm giving it (just barely) two stars. First, this isn't so much a trilogy as a single book broken into three different parts. Compare it, for example, to the original V.C. Andrews Flowers In The Attic trilogy, where each book stood on its own as a complete story. This book arbitrarily ends on a cliffhanger, and in order to get a complete story, you have to purchase the other two books. Which means you are paying over $20 for the complete story. Beyond that is the quality of the writer. While the author clearly knows his stuff when it comes to science, he is in desperate need of a writer. Sentence structure is not his friend, and there are typos galore. As a self-published author who works hard, in conjunction with an editor, to make my books the best they can possibly be, I have become increasingly, wildly frustrated with books such as this which simply do not live up to the implied contract between an author and a reader; a contract which promises not only to tell a good story, but to do so in conjunction with an editor who will make sure that the reader is getting their money's worth as opposed to something which feels haphazardly slapped together. While the story raised questions that I'd love to have answered, I have absolutely no intention of throwing good money after bad in order to find out how the tale ends.

Highly touted and disappointing.

The book description is so deceptive.
This was a book that started out with an interesting premise and went entirely downhill from there. The ending is another of the non-endings so common to Kindle self-published authors, contrived to make you buy the next book(s) leaving one feeling cheated and resentful and unless the book is exceptional I won't go to the sequel. This one wasn't exceptional. It was barely even interesting toward the end. They tout the author's use of cutting-edge scientific research. Nope, just his speculation and not even woven into a smooth whole.
Fortunately, I borrowed this through my Prime membership and didn't spend any money.

Do not waste your time.

A lot of loose ends that don't even connect at any point in the book. It was like reading 4 books at once but not finishing any of them. Poorly written, very dissatisfied. It was free...but I have read a lot of good free books.
